It used to be the realm of science fiction (heh, get it?). A man walks to his computer, inputs what he wants and walks to a slot in the wall and watches as the whatsit spits out of the slot. Well it’s not quite that simple just yet, but we’re getting closer. Known as 3D printers or “fabbers” everything from small parts to — no kidding — airplane wings are being printed. The printers work by laying down materials, building up layer after layer until you have an object. Now many of these machines cost $23,000 or more.
